Same email, new name: this is now Five and a Fade with Jeremy Durham. Same picks, same record, every Friday.
Off week for the Vols, which means we finally had time to stop yelling at the TV (we did not stop yelling at the TV). Here’s everything we wrote this week, plus a record that’s still above water.
Tennessee Had the Experts Beat. Then It Beat Itself.
“Good luck finishing them off in the fourth quarter.” I wrote it in this space after Alabama and said it again on my YouTube clip before the game. Turns out South Carolina never had to. Tennessee finished itself off.

The record
Vols against the spread 3-2 · College 9-7-1 (including the Vols)
Watch
Kentucky is 7-1 and ranked No. 9. Alabama has two losses. But Kentucky’s one loss is worse than both of them combined. Make It Make Sense, Part 3.
Worth your time
1. Heupel on the flags (Rocky Top Insider). Twelve penalties cost us 11 points, and he owned it. “It changes the way the game’s played,” Heupel told Rocky Top Insider. You don’t say.
2. Were the Vols robbed? (Rocky Top Insider). They went frame by frame on the three called-back touchdowns and the flags mostly hold up. Painful reading, but it backs up what we said: those were self-inflicted.
3. Kentucky is a sellout (Rocky Top Insider). Nov. 7, 6:15 p.m. ET on ESPN, Neyland full. Bring the noise, and maybe count to five before the snap.
4. A recruiting win over Bama and Georgia (Rocky Top Insider). Beating both of them for a defensive back during a bye week? Not a bad week off.
Know somebody who’d want the picks every Friday? Forward this email to them.
Go Vols.
